Why do you coach?

When James found CrossFit in 2007 he never expected that his “hobby” would end up completing redirecting his entire career. After attending the CrossFit Level 1 training seminar in 2008, James moved to Boston in order to pursue a law degree from Suffolk University. There he also started coaching and attending classes at CrossFit Boston.

CrossFit Boston proved to be a humbling and invaluable training grounds for James’ coaching skills, bringing closer to many affiliates in the Boston area. At the end of 2010, the athletes James had worked with during the last two years gave him all the reasons he needed to move on from law school in order to focus coaching in local affiliates as well as with CrossFit’s Seminar Training team.

CrossFit showed James simple ways to help anyone, anywhere, improve their lives through fitness as long as they were willing. Whether he is coaching his 57 year old mother or an early morning class, James strives to show athletes of all skill levels that CrossFit is truly infinitely scalable and accessible.

How long have you been coaching?: I’ve been coaching since the fall of 2008.

Favorite type of WOD to coach: I really like to coach running, but I also like teaching athletes new gymnastic skills.

Have you competed in CrossFit and what kind?: Do you want to? Yes, I have completed in CrossFit since 2008 at local competitions as well as at the CrossFit Games level since 2009.

Why do you coach?: I believe that athletes should have control over their own fitness and health. CrossFit is a wonderful tool and a simple tool that can create immense changes. Fitness positively impacted countless areas of my life. If I can share even a small part of that with others, I will be happy.

Favorite thing outside of the gym: Grocery shopping dates with my girlfriend, Ramen, Australian Shepherds, and reading.
