We are excited to introduce Winter Crew Training at ONE Nation! We have partnered with Coach Drew Tennant from CRI to launch an indoor Crew training program focused on improving strength and endurance for varsity teen rowers over the winter months.

Winter Crew Training is an essential component of a year-round varsity rowing program. This co-ed program is for experienced teen rowers who want to improve technical skills and build fitness over the winter months in preparation for the spring rowing season. Over the 10 weeks, practices will focus on improving rowing technique and efficiency, as well as developing all areas of mental and physical fitness.

The Winter Crew Training program is designed to prepare our teen athletes for the spring crew season. Our workouts are based on traditional Rowing and CrossFit programming, but are scaled to meet the abilities of our varsity athletes. Each athlete will receive personalized instruction during this class-based training program.

Through hard work, our varsity athletes will see improvement in their rowing technique, as well as general physical fitness skills: cardiovascular/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power and speed. This is an excellent program to provide off-season strength and conditioning before the spring crew season.

Coach Drew Tennant

Drew Tennant began his rowing career at Cornell University, where he was a three-time letter winner with the Lightweight Crew. After graduation he returned to his alma mater as an assistant coach and guided crews to gold medal finishes at the 2005 and 2010 IRA National Championships.

Currently he coaches with the Varsity Girls squad at Community Rowing Inc. He works year-round with Varsity, JV and U-17 athletes, preparing them for national-level competitions. In the summer of 2016 his crews reached the grand finals at the US Rowing Club Nationals and Canadian Henley Regattas. In addition to their on-the-water training, he oversees the team strength training and injury prevention programs.

Drew enjoys working with athletes of all ages, skill, and ability levels, and is active in outreach through Community Rowing’s Paralympic and “Lets Row Boston” programs. What he enjoys most about coaching is watching people from diverse backgrounds come together to achieve a common goal. Drew is still an avid competitor and is a 5-time medalist at the Head of the Charles Regatta.
